  • Insights and inspiration to incorporate imagination, intuition, and wonder into your nonfiction writing.
  • New doorways into your nonfiction writing, with numerous meditations, readings, and prompts to guide your progress.

Explore the emerging field of speculative nonfiction: nonfiction on the edges of what is known. In this self-guided course, you will discover new truths as you write from possibility, intuition, and wonder. You will learn to capture the slippery quality of the individual writer’s passage through time, and the sometimes surreal quality of existence.

We will experiment with techniques such as unexpected figurative language; associative memory; leaps across time; combining genres and mediums; and the writing of daydreams, fantasies, dreams, and imaginings.

You will explore what speculative nonfiction’s methods allow you to access, as you map the territories of inner worlds and the possibilities of the world we share. As we proceed, our interest will be not in misrepresenting the true events of the past, but in using a variety of methods to explore the edges of what we know and can imagine.

What’s Included:

  • 4 in-depth modules full of readings, prompts, craft lectures, and other entry points for your own speculative nonfiction writing.
  • 2 hour-long video interviews exploring the possibilities of speculative nonfiction.
  • 5 helpful worksheets exploring topics speculative nonfiction.
  • 2 audio meditations to deepen your knowledge and offer further inspiration.
  • Dozens of prompts and exercises that lend themselves to new creative work.
